What is Yarn Bombing?
Yarn bombing is a type of street art that consists of colorful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn. It typically involves covering, wrapping, or decorating objects in pieces of knit or crochet. Yarn bombing is also sometimes called wool bombing, urban knitting, or graffiti knitting.
While yarn bombing can consist of large displays and pieces, my favorite is actually smaller yarn bombs. Most recently I yarn bombed my own mailbox (in the photo at the top.) I crocheted a large rectangular piece that went around the base and then crocheted the flower applique pieces and stitched them on top. Finally I wrapped it around my mailbox base and stitched the sides together. (This piece has been on my mailbox for over a year now and I still love it!) Keep reading for lots of other ideas.
