My Middle sister and I have had a long running joke about her 30th birthday card. Specifically, that it needed to include this Mother Goose rhyme. I’m not exactly sure how or why we decided that this needed to be her card, but it’s been discussed off and on for the past several years. Last weekend she turned 30 and I finally presented her with her Old Woman birthday card.
Lip Sync Battle Birthday Party
Of course that wasn’t the only way that we celebrated her turning 30. Nope. The theme for the day was lip sync battle. My sister is a fantastic singer. Actually both of my sisters have very pretty voices. But not all of us like to sing in front of a group, including me. Plus, we already did a karaoke party for her when she graduated from college. Inspired by a current television show, we decided to do a lip sync battle birthday party.
As party host I got to kick off the festivities with Bowling for Soup’s 1985 (in honor of the birthday girl). Sadly, or thankfully, there seem to be no pictures of my performance.
My youngest sister Kara rocked out to a Beyonce song, complete with all the dance moves from music video.
The birthday girl herself performed to Justin Bieber’s song Boyfriend, with a little audience participation. (There is a video of her performing HERE or HERE.)
Since we did bill this as a battle, there was voting and a prize for the winner. Following the performances we had everyone texted me their vote. I tallied them up and presented the winner with the prize, a light up microphone that sings ‘Let It Go’. Here is our battle winner proudly holding his prize microphone. (You can enjoy his hilarious performance HERE or HERE.)
We kept everyone’s performance to around 2 minutes, fading out the music at the end of the songs. And we asked everyone to let me know what their song choice was pre-party to ensure we didn’t have any duplicate song choices. But the song choices were a complete surprise to all the other guests, which made it really fun to see people react when the music would start for each performer. Trying to pick a song was the hardest party for me, I kept changing my mind up until the last minute.
And what’s a party without cake? I made a yellow cake with chocolate sprinkle icing, and there were plenty of other drinks and snacks as well.
It was fun to see how people really got into the performances. If you are looking for a party activity this was a fun one!
Have you every done a lip sync party? What would be your song choice?
