Proof that you should enter giveaways

This weekend is proof positive that you should enter giveaways.

I’ve talked before about how Valentine’s Day is usual a low-key affair for us. Well, this year would be the exception to that rule.

A few weeks ago my Mom asked if she could take the twins to Washington, D.C. over Valentine’s Day weekend. Of course I said yes. (She got some amazing deal on their airfare.) Then late last week, a friend on Facebook shared a giveaway that a local hotel in Dallas was having. It was for a two night stay, dinner for two at the hotel restaurant, plus room service one morning. I entered, never in a million years thinking I would win.

I won.

Thank goodness for other grandma’s who live nearby. We dropped Littlest off Friday night and headed to Dallas for the most decadent Valentine’s Day we have ever celebrated.

Friday nights dinner turned out to be a fabulous five-course event, which started with my amuse bouche liquid baked potato shooter and included some oysters rockefeller. My hubby even tried the chocolate rubbed filet as his entree. And it all ended with a chocolate lava cake for two in the shape of a heart. Holy yummy.

I do admit that while drinking my liquid baked potato shooter I could hear Rory Gilmore’s voice in my head saying her mouth was amused after she ate an amuse bouche. (Because everything in life relates back to Gilmore Girls.)

Then Saturday morning I was greeted with some Nutella stuffed french toast delivered to my door. This might need to become the annual way I begin Valentine’s Day, because it was delicious as well.

If I had to choose between chocolates and flowers I would choose chocolates. So a weekend full of amazing food was perfect for me. (And somehow I think it probably tastes even better when you are there as a guest of the hotel.)

And now that Valentine’s Day weekend is over, it’s birthday week for me! So let the eating of all the sweets continue. At least for a few more days.
