Pinterest week! {chalkboard}

I actually did two chalkboard crafts. I had been planning on painting some old chipped mugs with chalkboard paint, but then I got a free door. And I couldn’t resist painting it.

My parents are having their bathroom redone and one day I went over and this door was sitting in their driveway in a heap of stuff to be taken to the dump. I think the contractor thought I was a little crazy when I asked if I could have the door, but I was happy as I put it in the back of my truck and took it home.

Here it is unpainted and laying on my driveway. I wrapped the doorknob in foil to try to keep paint off of it.

I bought a can of Rustoleum Chalkboard Paint at my local hardware store. I didn’t really do any prep work to the door. Wiped it down to make sure it was clean and then I started painting. This is how splotchy it looked after the first coat.
But it was nice and dark after the second coat. It looks really cute with the bunting draped across it and flowers drawn on it.

Now it’s hanging out on my back porch and the kids are having fun drawing all over it.

After painting the door I still wanted to paint some old mugs. These were all chipped up, and I thought a coat of paint would give them a new life. No prep work needed for the mugs either, they were clean.

They were also pretty streaky after the first coat.

But looked really good after the second coat. Now, with chalkboard paint all over them you probably wouldn’t want to drink out of these.
But they work great at holding things like art supplies. Here is one of the mugs at the display holding some crayons. (If you wanted to drink out of the mug, I would make a smaller design, leaving it unpainted around the top.)
Other chalkboard crafts at the display included this Chalkboard Menu

    These look so great! I’ve been meaning to make a chalkboard out of something, it just hasn’t struck me yet!

      Thanks! I had been wanting to do some chalkboard projects and it took being in charge of this display to finally get me to do them! (I still have an old desk sitting outside that I want to paint the top of with chalkboard paint.)
