While my Christmas tree is still standing in all its glory in my living room, the hustle and bustle of the holidays is mostly behind us. My kids head back to school tomorrow and I’m ready to get back into a steady daily routine. I love the new year. A chance to reflect on the previous year and make goals/resolutions/plans for the year ahead.
While many of my goals stay the same from year to year (exercise more, watch less tv) for the past several years I have chosen a word of the year to serve as a guide.
Two years ago I picked the word Shine. I wanted to be more confident in my skills and abilities. To go along with my word I made a goal to do a yarn bomb once a month. The yarn bombs really pushed me to step out of my comfort zone.
Last year I picked the word Grow. And last year did feel like a year of growth, the highlight being that I finally finished my bachelors degree. I also did some growing with the kids, including spending a week in a tent on our summer vacation.
This year, for my word of the year, I have picked the word Impact. The biggest daily impact that I have is on my children. I just saw something about how children might not always listen but they always see. My actions make an enormous impact on their lives.
But I also want to make a positive impact beyond my own family. And I want to show my children how they can impact others as well. I have an exciting new adventure that I will be starting later this month that I think will be the catalyst for this years word. (Much more on that to come.)
Do you pick a word for the year? I’d love to hear it!
Oh I love this! There are so many ways we can make an impact, so that’s a great word! I haven’t come up with the right word for my word of the year, but something about being more positive and loving towards everything and everyone.
