Galaxy Trunk or Treat

September 4, 2017 by Julie Leave a Comment

Heading to a Trunk or Treat Activity for Halloween? Make your trunk look out of this world with a Space Galaxy Trunk or Treat theme!

Galaxy Trunk or Treat

Instead of Trick or Treat, most years my kids say Trunk or Treat. Since the twins were little our Halloween tradition has been to attend the Trunk or Treat activity put on by our church. If you’ve never been to one, everyone parks their car in a circle-ish shape with the trunks pointing towards the center. Everyone decorates their trunk and the kids go car to car gathering candy. And it’s super efficient. A time or two (depending on how many kids are there) around the cars and my kids have more than enough candy. And it’s easy to keep an eye on my kids. Now that the twins are teenagers I usually stay by the car passing out candy while they take their brother around.

We’ve never lived anywhere that was big on trick or treating. Our neighborhood has never had many kids, and when we lived in downtown Fort Worth there weren’t a lot of kids in our building.

I actually grew up going to Trunk or Treat activities and really enjoy them. We’ve often paired ours with a chili cook-off. So everyone gets to eat some chili before indulging in all the Halloween candy.

With Littlest picking a Star Wars costume for Halloween this year I thought it would be perfect to continue the theme with our trunk decorations. So this year we’ll be doing an outer space galaxy themed trunk.

I started by putting down a black plastic tablecloth in the back of my car. Then I hung a space backdrop. In front of the backdrop I added planetary cutouts, tissue paper pom-poms, and a silver bucket to hold the candy I’ll be giving away. And I got all of my trunk or treating decorating supplies from Oriental Trading!

The final touch? A rocket! This rocket is also a photo-prop for the car. Another fun thing for the kids to do while they are getting candy.

The only part of the decorations that took some time were my DIY tissue paper pom-poms that I made with colored tissue paper and string. I got a variety pack of colors and picked ones that went with our space theme.

We’re ready to blast off for Halloween Trunk or Treating!

Thanks to Oriental Trading for providing the trunk or treat space supplies for Halloween
