Book Swap Party

This weekend I celebrated my birthday with good friends and good books. I hosted my first book swap party!

I asked all of my guests to bring a book (or more) that they were done reading and that they wanted to swap for a new book (or books). I didn’t have any rules regarding the books, any genres were welcome. We piled all the books on my coffee table and then enjoyed some snacks and chatting until we were ready to swap.

I served a table full of book themed food, with an ‘Eat Me’ sign

Peeta chips and hummus / The Hunger Games – Suzanne Collins

Grapes of Wrath / Grapes of Wrath – John Steinbeck

Stud Muffins / with the names of some of our favorite male leads

Orange is the new black carrot and veggie tray /Orange is the New Black – Piper Kerman

I think the stud muffins might have been my favorite part! It was fun to come up with the names, though some were admittedly more inspired by the television or film versions than the book (point in case, Captain Hook).

To go along with the book theme I decorated and labeled everything with chalkboards and chalk. For our drink coasters I used black doilies we could write our names on with a chalkboard marker.

Once we were done with our eats and drinks everyone browsed through the books. And it appeared that everyone left with something new and exciting to read!

And that slice of turtle cheesecake? That was how I topped off my evening.

Hi Julie, I loved your birthday party idea. I have a question. It seems like you shared a recipe for home made biscuits a while back. Could you help me find it? Thanks Robynn Thiot

What a great idea for book themed food!! I am such a book worm and seriously love how you themed your book swap party!! I wish my friends read more so that I could host something like this… although maybe it would be a way to get them into reading??

I like how you incorporated book names into food tags. That’s such a nice touch. Happy Belated Birthday! 🙂
