Family Tree

February 19, 2015 by Julie Leave a Comment

family tree littlest

Lately Littlest has been very interested in talking about how everyone in our family is connected. While we were working on the letter ‘T’ this week I took the opportunity to print out a family tree for him. I really loved this one with the twisted trunk. We talked about how Mommy and Daddy, our names are on the trunk, combined to form our family. It was also handy that the tree has three major roots, one for each of the kids.

Once we got the kids names on the roots and Mom and Dad on the trunk we added in everyone else. Grammie and Pops (my parents) went on the branches on one side of the tree while Grandma and Grandpa (my husband’s parents) went on the other side.

Aunts, Uncles, and cousins created the leaves for our tree. We went with three leaf colors. Siblings, mine and my husbands, were the lightest shade of green. Then sibling spouses were slightly darker shade of green. Finally all of their kids, Littlest’s cousins, were the darkest green.

While it’s not a super traditional family tree I loved having the chance to help him understand how everyone is related.

Now I’m thinking that a nice framed version of the tree would make a lovely grandparent gift. I’ll have to hang on to that idea.
