For everyone who helps us grow, Moms, Grandmas, Teachers, and mentors, a gift to say thank you! Watch Me Grow Mason Jar Gift is perfect for a DIY Mothers Day or Teacher Appreciation Gift
There are so many people in our lives who help us grow. Our Moms. Teachers. Grandmothers. Mentors. Friends. The list could just go on and on. Celebrate your growth with a ‘Watch Me Grow’ Mason Jar gift for the ones in our lives who helped us get to where we are.
For your plant you can either plant seeds in your mason jar, and then the gift recipient can really watch the plant grow, or re-plant an already grown plant.
Since both Moms and teachers tend to like useful gifts, I selected a simple herb plant. And of course the ‘Watch Me Grow’ theme which goes really well with Moms, teachers, and plants. Even though I decided to replant a thyme plant, rather than growing from seeds, I still included a seed packet.

Supplies
The first step was to paint my mason jar with some sand colored acrylic craft paint. I was going for a ruler look, and it’s the closest light brown color I had on hand.
Once the paint was dry I added the ruler and the ‘Watch Me Grow’ lettering with a paint pen. (I used the same lettering trick as I used with this chalkboard sign. Instead of using chalk on the back of the paper I traced the backside of the paper with pencil and transferred those letters to the painted jar.)
Finally you can add your dirt and either plant your seeds or re-pot your plant.
DIY Mothers Day
If you’re giving this gift for Mother’s Day, once you’ve planted your plant it’s ready to go! A perfect gift for any Mom, particularly if she loves to garden. (I’m betting it would be a sweet Father’s Day gift for Dad’s who enjoy gardening as well.)
DIY Teacher Appreciation Gift
To make these for teacher appreciation gifts you can print off some fun teacher appreciation signs! If you chose a thyme plant you could make a sign that reads “I’ve had the Thyme of my life in your class!”
Or you could plant a mint plant and make “You were Mint to teach!” signs. Then cut small slits in the signs and use a paper straw to hold them up.
Teachers have a huge impact in our lives. I think I may even appreciate them now more that I’m a parent. While handmade gifts become a little harder in high school, where my son has at least 8 different teachers, but for Littlest in elementary school I can still make them each something. (Though he has a lot of teachers, too!)
By the time summer arrives I am honestly happy to not have to wake up early and get everyone ready to school. Yet, I’m also sad. Over the year I have come to really respect the teachers who work with my kids every day. I value the impact they have made on my child that year. And I know how wonderful they are. I don’t want to let them go! So whether I send it for teacher appreciation week, or as an end of school gift, I always want to give their teacher something to say thank you.
