The great outdoors

July 16, 2012 by Julie Leave a Comment

I admit it, the kids have had way too much inside time this summer. The past two summers we have gotten passes to the city pools and we did a fair amount of playing outside. This year we opted to not get swim passes and we have been watching way to much TV and spending too much time in front of the computer.

Starting last week I’m really trying to make more of an effort to get us outside.

My poor kids still haven’t been in a swimming pool yet this summer, but I did take them to a park with a splash pad. After we were done splashing around we walked over to the duck pond that is also at this park. I brought some bread with us so the kids could feed the ducks.

There was a turtle (actually several) that came to eat, too

We also attempted our first outdoor movie. The local college has been showing movies every Thursday night at 9pm. Last week they showed The Hunger Games. So we packed up our lawn chairs and blankets and went to the movies.

There was a nice breeze and it was a pretty fun event. There are a couple more weeks this summer that they are doing this and we might try to squeeze in one more movie.

What do you do in the summer to encourage your kids to play outside?
