Savory Blueberry Chicken

That first cold bite of ice cream on a hot summer day is a moment to be experienced over and over again. On Sunday afternoons you will quite often find us at my in-laws for Sunday dinner. And my kids know that ice cream after dinner is a tradition at Grandma’s house, a tradition that is not to be missed. I love that during the summer we don’t have to worry about leaving at a certain time to get the kids in bed in time for school the next morning. It lets our visits be a little more leisurely.

Since we all live close to each other we get to spend a lot of time with family during the summer. My Mom is a school teacher and she plans weekly outings with the boys throughout the summer. My Mom also knows that a container of vanilla ice cream in the refrigerator is a requirement for her three grandsons. What can I say, ice cream just brings people together.

Even if it’s not family that you are gathering with, summer is a great time for all kinds of get togethers. And I know that in addition to some ice cream, you are going to want to wow your guests with a fabulous meal as well. Blueberries are a popular ingredient for summer desserts, but have you ever thought of using blueberries for a savory dish? You should! Make a savory blueberry sauce to top your grilled chicken (or any meat) this summer.

Savory Blueberry Sauce

My savory blueberry sauce is only a few ingredients: garlic, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, water, and blueberries.

Cook that down to a nice sauce and then it’s ready to serve! Spoon the savory blueberry sauce over your grilled item of choice, I made chicken, and you’ve got an entree to impress.

Once your guests tastebuds have been wowed by your main course you can give them a treat with a bowl of DREYER’S SLOW CHURNED® Simple Recipes ice cream. I’ve mentioned that DREYER’S SLOW CHURNED Vanilla Light Ice Cream is a freezer requirement for my boys. I also made sure to pick up some DREYER’S SLOW CHURNED Caramel Delight Light Ice Cream on my latest trip to Walmart.

Both flavors were easy to find in the freezer section. I love that with either choice there are no  artificial colors or flavors and no GMO Ingredients. Want to see the flavors in action? Check to see if there is a demo coming to a store near you.

I’ve made a strawberry and raspberry sauce before, but not a blueberry. Looks great! #client
