Mason Jar Graduation Hat

It’s graduation time! Well, not for me. (Yet.) But May is graduation season for a lot of people. College graduations, high school graduations, kindergarten graduations. Lots of people are celebrating some pretty big milestones.

If your planning on throwing a graduation party these DIY mason jar graduation hats make a pretty fun decoration. They are also perfect for holding a graduation gift!

I used a quart sized mason jar along with a sheet of card stock. I cut a 5″x5″ square of card stock to use as the top of my hat. Then I cut a 1″ strip of card stock for the base of the hat, and to go around the metal ring lid of the mason jar. I used tape to secure the paper strip along the lid, but you could also use hot glue if you wanted it a little more permanent. Then I also used tape to attach the top of the hat to the rim.

Once that was in place I made my yellow tassel. I remember at my youngest sisters college graduation that different colleges within her university had different colored tassels. You can really personalize the hat and color of the tassel to match your graduate.

I used a gold brad to secure the tassel to the top of the hat. And then I could screw the lid on to the mason jar.

If you were using the mason jar as a decoration you could fill it with tissue paper in your schools colors, or place a battery operated candle inside of it.

If you wanted to use the mason as clever gift packaging, you could fill it with rolled up dollar bills, tied to look like diplomas. They would also be fun to give filled with candy.

And congratulations to all the graduates!
