To make homemade ice cream in a bag, you will need the six ingredients as well as a large gallon size zippered plastic bag and a sandwich size plastic bag for each serving.
You can also add your favorite toppings like sprinkles, fruit, or chocolate sandwich cookies.
How to Make Ice Cream In a Bag
Combine the milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla in the sandwich size bag. (Don’t add any solid ingredients like cookies or chocolate chips at this point, you can add those later.)
Close the sandwich baggie, making sure the bag is securely closed. Also, make sure to get out as much air as possible.
Next, fill the gallon size bag halfway full with ice. Then add in the rock salt
Now, place the smaller sealed bag of ice cream ingredients into the larger bag. Securely close the gallon sized bag, again removing as much air as possible.
Next? Shake the bag! And keep shaking for about 10 to 15 minutes. Pro tip: wear gloves , wrap the bag in a towel, or use oven mitts. The bag will get cold!
Sealing the bags securely is not only important to prevent leaks, but also to keep your ice cream from getting salty. After you’re done shaking you can also rinse off the sandwich size bag to help ensure that any salt on the outside doesn’t make its way inside the bag. Using the chunkier rock salt will also help prevent the salt from getting into your ice cream.
When your ice cream is set you can add in your favorite toppings and then smoosh the bag with your hands to mix them together. I love cookies and cream, so I added crushed chocolate sandwich cookies to the vanilla ice cream.
Once it’s finished squeeze the ice cream out into a bowl, or cup, and enjoy!
Each bag is a perfect serving for one person, which means that everyone can make and customize their own homemade ice cream.
