GOTG GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

While we are avid movie watchers at my house, we don’t actually see that many movies at the movie theater. But Guardians of the Galaxy was one that we made sure to see on the big screen. (We even saw it in 3D at the theater.) And since then I have been eagerly awaiting it’s DVD release. One, so I could see it again, and two, so we could watch it with the twins (who haven’t seen it yet).

One of the most fun things about watching a super hero/action movie with a house full of boys is seeing them play as the characters and act out scenes together long after the movie is over. Which gave me the inspiration to put together some really fun idea’s for a Guardians of the Galaxy family night.

First up, Guardians of the Galaxy action figures gift wrapped in a ‘cassette tape’.

These action figures come in several different combinations, and I picked up a few at Walmart.

Then I got to work making my gift box. My box is about 8″ by 5″. I wrapped the entire box in white and then I attached my cassette tape graphic to the front. (I used a photo editing program to scale my cassette tape graphic to fit my box.) Then I thought it would be fun to label my mix with the name of who it was for. Since this box was for my kids I labeled it “Awesome Kids Mix”. And you could gift all sorts of Guardians of the Galaxy things in your cassette tape: the movie itself, the soundtrack, action figures, books, costumes, (I think you get the idea).

If your kids play Disney Infinity you might want to get them a Groot, Drax, or Rocket Raccoon figure for Disney Infinity 2.0. From 12/7 – 12/13, when you buy one of these Disney Infinity 2.0 figures, the cashier should be prompted to give you a $5 Walmart gift card instantly.

Of course, no movie night would be complete without a treat to eat while watching the movie. So I give you, Groot treats!

I used sugar cookie dough, but any dough that you roll and cut would work. I rolled out my dough and then used a knife to cut out Groot shaped cookies. I added some chocolate frosting eyes and stripes across his body. Then it was just a matter of opening some pudding cups and adding some ‘dirt’ (crushed chocolate sandwich cookies) before planting our cookie Groots.

Several DVD features will be available with the Guardians of the Galaxy release on December 9th, including: Exclusive Character O-sleeve and exclusive music zinepack and a 64-page magazine with cast and crew interviews, exclusive behind-the-scenes photos and trivia PLUS a custom “cassette” laptop decal. I would also suggest preemptively picking up the soundtrack while you get your movie. The music is pretty catchy and we’ve been listening the the soundtrack quite a bit since the movie came out.

Do you have family movie night at your house? I’d love to hear about it! Leave me a comment sharing your movie night must haves.
