End-of-Year Teacher Gifts

June 3, 2010 by Julie Leave a Comment

Last week I wrote about how I really wanted to make these pot holders for the twins teachers. Which was great, except for the part where I don’t sew.

Instead I ended up going in a completely different direction.

I had also seen whitewashed typography flower pots. But I wasn’t much interested in typography, I did like the idea of monogramming them, though.

So I followed the typography tutorial for mixing white paint and water to whitewash my pots.

Then I found a font that I wanted and traced the letters that I needed (an “O” and an “A”)

Then I painted in the letters in black

And I ended up with these two pots

But I’m a knitter. And there’s no knitting in these pots. That had to be remedied.

I’ve been wanting to make some knitted cacti for awhile, and this was the perfect opportunity. And actually, only the plant on the right is knitted. The one on the left is crocheted. I used the same green yarn for both, so I made sure they were different shapes and accented differently. The one on the right has the flower in two shades of yellow and the one on the left has “thorns” and some real rocks.

I’m really pleases with how they turned out. I hope their teachers enjoy their easy to care for plants.
