I’m fairly certain that chocolate makes everything better. Need a pick me up from doing your taxes? Have some chocolate. Need a snack for movie night? Have some chocolate. Kids had a rough day at school? Give them some chocolate.
Missed celebrating your birthday because you had the flu? Have some chocolate. Specifically, some homemade magic bars.
Yep, I ended up with the stomach flu for my birthday weekend. So this past weekend we did a little belated celebrating. Breakfast with my sisters, lunch with my Dad, and plenty of dessert all weekend long.
Chocolate and coconut is one of my favorite dessert combinations. So instead of a cake this year I made myself some Magic Bars using my Mom’s recipe.
I have the recipe on my phone so I can refer back to it while I’m making the Magic Bars. (See the phone there in the corner!)
And for a little family celebrating it’s simple to pair eating Magic Bars with watching a free movie on VUDU courtesy of our cellphone plan. With the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS I get Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data which includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE PLUS a free movie on VUDU every month, and it’s just $49.88 per month.
Dessert and a movie on the TV is one of our favorite ways to spend an evening together. And if you’ve never watched my Littlest during movie night, it is not a sitting still activity for him. He gets very animated during his favorite scenes. The downside to movie night is that it’s dark and hard to capture his excitement.
You can find plenty of great phones right now including the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime for just $99.00 (Rollback from $149.00). Hi Julie, could you substitute something else in place of the coconut? If so do you have any suggested?
Vicki Stone says
I have made these for years but put them together alittle different.
1. I mix the butter and graham crackers in a separate bowl and then press that firmly in pan.
2.Then put chocolate chips or butterscotch chips or both.
3. Then option of adding nuts
4. Sprinkle top with coconut
5. Then put on the condense milk.
Tip: cut into squares while warm. Also cut around the edges. When it gets cool much harder to cut.
