Like a regular paper boat, except these are made out of duct tape. Which means they can float on the water! We’re using ours to have a Duct Tape Boat Race.
Having activities that the kids can do themselves is vital to everyone’s sanity. Especially during breaks from school, like the summer.
We’re kind of boat crazy lately. My husband and the twins just finished building a canoe. We’ve taken it to the lake and paddled around in it. And my husband took it for a week long boat trip in Arkansas! The boat and my husband made it the whole trip.
While my husband is busy building boats real people can fit in, I’ll stick to ones that fit in the house. These fun duct tape boats are really just a waterproof version of a regular paper boat.
Start with an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper. Cover the entire piece of paper in duct tape, front and back.
Then fold your duct tape paper into a duct tape paper boat. This is a little bit trickier because of the duct tape, but only because the paper is thicker. Make sure to press down firmly on each fold.
First fold your sheet of duct tape paper in half, lengthwise. Then unfold the paper and fold it in half vertically. This will leave creases horizontally and vertically on your paper.
Return the paper to the first fold and fold down the top corners, similar to a paper airplane.
Fold the bottom of the paper up against both sides.
Open up the bottom of the triangle and make it into a square shape. Fold up the bottom flaps.
Make the triangle into a square again. Starting at the top, pull down on the two sides to open up your boat.
I added two small pieces of duct tape to each end of the boat to make sure it was secure. Then we could put them in the water!
With some straws you can blow on your boats and create your own duct tape boat race. If you want to race inside, the best location is probably the bathtub. You could also take them outside in a wading pool, or any body of water.
You could even wear your swimsuit and get in the water with your duct tape boat!
I’m using the same chevron duct tape for one of our boats as I did for my pet food placemat. What is your favorite thing to make out of duct tape?

My boys would love this! I’m predicting one of them will pullout a super fat smoothie straw to win 😉

Would be nice if there was pictures of each fold instead of fast flipping pictures.
