I don’t think my husband ever intended to be a cat owner. But then a couple months after we got married a stray cat showed up on our doorstep in a snow storm. I fed him, and well, that stray became our first pet, Cosmo. We have had at least one cat ever since.

Currently we are a two cat family. Coco is another stray that showed up on our doorstep. She was a teeny tiny kitten and Oldest Twin was immediately smitten with her. He would sit outside for hours playing with her. Clearly we had to keep her. And Ranger is another orange tabby like Ranger was. We got him from a family whose cat had kittens and Ranger was the last kitten that needed a home.

The cats have a corner where there food and water bowl is kept. Lately the kids, specifically Littlest, have been more interested in feeding the cats. A five year old pouring cat food doesn’t always go as planned. I decided it was time for the cats to have a placemat, making spilled cat food easier to clean up.

For this DIY pet placemat I used a 12×18 piece of cardboard, duct tape, masking tape, and clear contact paper. I started by taping the duct tape to the cardboard and then added the masking tape accent strips. When the cardboard was covered I used two pieces of clear contact paper, one on the front and one on the back, to make the placemat waterproof.

Living in an apartment our cats are strictly indoors. Whenever I’m at Target it’s so easy to grab the IAMS indoor cat formula while I’m buying all of my other groceries (two teenage boys are starting to eat a lot). Target has a whole pet section with treats (Ranger is a fan of catnip), toys, and anything else you might need for your pet.

Make sure to check your Target Cartwheel App to get the best deal on IAMS pet food. Right now you can get 10% off IAMS dog food (includes both wet & dry), 10% off IAMS dry cat food, and 5% off IAMS wet cat food. Did I mention the three boys that are eating all the food this summer? I like saving money.

I think Coco likes her new food placemat.

What is your favorite treat for your pet? Is Target your one stop pet shop?
