Chain Stitch Coasters

November 10, 2016 by Julie Leave a Comment

You can make great crafts with just a simple crochet chain stitch! Start by making these Chain Stitch Coasters

Chain Stitch Coasters

I get it. Learning a new craft can be frustrating. Mainly because when you’re first learning what you make is mostly for practice. Not anymore! These coasters are made with the most basic crochet stitch, the chain stitch!

And they aren’t even the only thing you can do with a chain stitch! I’m starting a crochet 101 video series and our first project is this chain stitch coaster.

The supplies you’ll need:

  • Yarn (a cotton, medium weight yarn would be perfect)
  • Crochet hook (your yarn will tell you what size crochet hook you need)
  • Hot glue gun and hot glue
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle (optional)

With that one stitch we’ll be making these gorgeous coasters. Make them in any color you want to match the holidays or to go with the theme of your next party. And they make great handmade gifts! Make up a set of them, tie them up with a pretty ribbon, and give them as gifts this holiday season.

Chain Stitch Coasters

I made a set for Thanksgiving and a red and green Christmas set.

There are lots of ways to use a crochet chain stitch. I used some red and white yarn to make a chain stitch ‘ribbon’. Look how pretty Jane Eyre looks tied up with a pretty chain stitch bow!

Make sure you’re following me on Facebook to see how I’m making these chain stitch coasters plus more of my Learn to Crochet series!

If you missed watching the chain stitch tutorial live, you can see it here!

Looking for other chain stitch projects? Make Crochet Acorn Caps or a Chain Stitch Necklace.

Next up in this Learn to Crochet series is the single crochet stitch! And then double crochet!
