I don’t have favorites. The older I get the harder it is for me to choose. But I have been very partial to blackberries lately. I love the punch of color they bring to dishes and drinks. In the summer they make sweet cobblers and during the fall and winter their gorgeous color pairs perfectly with holiday entertaining.

In all honesty I don’t remember eating blackberries that much growing up. But then a few years ago a friend invited me to come pick fresh blackberries with her and I never looked back.

Blackberry Moscow Mule Mocktail

When I started thinking about my perfect Moscow Mule Mocktail I started thinking of what would pair well with the spicy ginger beer. I thought of limes, fresh mint, and juicy blackberries.

You really can’t go wrong with fresh fruit and herbs when you are making a mocktail. Before you get started pop your copper mugs into the freezer to get them nice and frosty.

Muddle the blackberries and fresh mint until the blackberries are broken down and juicy. 

Add some lime juice, simple syrup, and shake (or stir) to combine. Add your ginger beer and then pour through a strainer into your frosted copper mug that’s already filled with crushed ice.

You can buy simple syrup or make your own. Just combine equal parts water and sugar, and simmer over medium-low heat until the sugar is completely dissolved. Allow to cool before using in your Moscow Mule Mocktail.

Garnish your Blackberry Moscow Mule Mocktail with some additional blackberries, a lime wedge, and a sprig of mint.

Ingredients

• 4 large blackberries
• 2-3 sprig of mint
• 6 ounces ginger beer
• 2 Tablespoons simple syrup
• 1 1/2 Tablespoons lime juice
• Ice
• Lime, mint, and blackberries for garnish

Instructions

1. Place your copper mug in the freezer to get frosty.
2. In a glass, muddle the blackberries with 2-3 mint leaves.
3. Add the lime juice, simple syrup, and ginger beer.
4. Fill your mug with ice.
5. Strain the blackberry and ginger beer mixture into the mug.
6. Garnish with additional lime slices, mint leaves, and blackberries.
