Back to School Notebook Paper Sugar Cookies

July 14, 2017 by Julie 5 Comments

Back to school is right around the corner! Make the change sweeter by making Back to School Cookies that look like Notebook Paper

Back to School Notebook Paper Sugar Cookies

Back to school is better with cookies. Okay, everything is better with cookies. But it also applies to back to school. These back to school cookies are just plain sugar cookies with a simple frosting.

Start with your favorite sugar cookie recipe. After rolling out the dough I used a ruler and a butter knife to cut my cookies into 2.5″x3″ rectangles. (Of course if you have a rectangular cookie cutter that works. I just didn’t have one.)Place them in the oven and bake according to your directions. Take them out and let them cool on a wire rack while you make some powdered sugar frosting.

Frost all of the sugar cookies with the white frosting. While it’s drying you can divide the remaining to color for the stripes.

Since you will need more blue frosting than red, I put 1/3 of the frosting in a bowl with a drop of red food coloring and 2/3 in a bowl with blue food coloring. I did the vertical red line down the side first.

Then I added the horizontal blue stripes. I spaced them out so there are 5 blue stripes on each cookie.

Are my lines perfectly straight? No. Were the cookies soft and sweet? Yes.

If you want to package the cookies make sure to allow the frosting to harden first. Or start eating them right away, which was the most popular option at my house.
