War Against Caffeine (or rather, why I love caffeine)

August 19, 2015 by Julie 4 Comments

War against caffeine, or rather, why I love caffeine

I am not naturally a morning person. My preferred sleeping habits firmly place me as a night owl. This makes summer time is blissful. No consequences for staying up late. The kids and I can theoretically sleep as late as we chose. Of course there is a 5 year old who doesn’t want to sleep too late.

In Fort Worth middle school doesn’t start until 9:20. That means that they don’t get out until 4:20. And while that often creates chaos at dinner time, it has been very nice not being rushed as we get ready in the morning for the last two years.

That all comes to a screeching halt on Monday.

Littlest starts kindergarten this year and elementary school starts before 8am. I think I’m supposed to have him there about 7:30. I should probably double check. Littlest isn’t particularly a morning person either. He does like to wake up before his brothers, but since they are teenagers that isn’t saying much.

All of this is a prelude to my war against caffeine, or rather, why I love caffeine. See it helps with that whole not being a morning person thing.

And if you needed some more reasons to love caffeine

  1. It elevates your mood. It literally makes me (and you) happier.
  2. It’s diet friendly! It can boost your metabolism and help you power through a tough workout.
  3. It improves productivity. Obviously.

I have started some good morning habits this summer. Including beginning my day with a large glass of citrus water. I prefer slices of lemons and limes in my water. I drink one large glass before I do anything else. Then I aim for another glass with breakfast. Which is also when I take my morning vitamins. Starting the day with a glass of water has been a boost to drinking more water all day long. (I highly recommend it.)

It’s lunch/afternoon time when I start craving something sweet and bubbly. (Dirty Diet Soda anyone?)

And I’m convinced that some foods just taste better with sweet caffeine. Burgers. Pizza. Tex-Mex. Actually, a list of foods that I don’t want to eat might be shorter.

I’m fairly certain that I am in good company with my love for caffeine. So tell me, what’s your favorite way to get a jolt?

I’m completely addicted to Diet Pepsi. My day is just not complete without it.

I am all about tea and coffee. Not a soda drinker at all. But coffee and tea give me life!

I love coffee. I need coffee. And when I just went on a diet, I said the same thing! It’s good for you. Just not all the creamer I put in it 🙂
