upcycled tie craft

July 19, 2012 by Julie Leave a Comment

The twins have a pretty diverse collection of ties in their closet. Regular ties, clip on ties, zip ties, you get the picture.

Recently one of their clip on ties broke. The tie itself was fine, but the plastic piece that it was tied on to broke. The tie part of a clip on tie is shorter than a regular tie. It was even to short to tie like a regular tie and use on the toddler. But I thought there must be lots of idea’s for things I could make with it, so off to Pinterest I went.

And there were lots of idea’s. I looked at patterns for luggage tags, bracelets, and sunglass/cell phone cases.

But in the end I’ve decided to refashion the twins clip on tie into a tie on an elastic band for the toddler.

Simple supplies, the tie and some elastic

My husband tied the tie for me (I can, but he’s better at it)

I hand stitched the knot closed

Then I snipped the neckband in half

Folded the raw edges down, slipped in the elastic, and stitched in together

And now I have an elastic band necktie for the toddler
