TWB: Getting to Know You

Getting to Know You Link Party with the Texas Women Bloggers

The Texas Women Bloggers group is one that I was very happy to stumble onto. If you’re a blogger in Texas I highly recommend you join this group of talented supportive women! This is my first link party with the group, so it’s fitting that it’s a getting to know you post!

1. What part of Texas do you call home?
Arlington is where I have spent most of my life. Right in the middle between Dallas and Fort Worth. But last month we moved to Fort Worth. Right downtown. And now that is home.

2. How long have you been blogging?
My first blog was started in 2007. The Coco and Cocoa blog began it’s journey in 2010.

3. Why did you start blogging?
At first, because my friends all had blogs. We shared pictures of our kids and stories of our days. It helped me keep in touch with friends who lived all over the country.
Over time my blog has become more about me. Of course the kids and their days are still a big part of that. But blogging has helped me and pushed me to grow in discovering my own talents and interests.

4. When we visit your blog, what can we expect to discover?
Coco and Cocoa is a lifestyle blog. You’ll see the crafts that I am making (often with yarn), food that I am cooking/eating, clothes that I am wearing, and stories of my family.

5. How did you come up with your Blog Title and what is its meaning?
I’m terrible at naming things. My husband is an interior designer, whose business name is Cosmo’s Designs. Cosmo was our first cat when we got married. When it came time to name my online shop I decided to stick with the cat name theme. At the time we still had Cosmo but we also had a second cat name Coco. Except we couldn’t decide if we should spell her name ‘Coco’ like the designer or ‘Cocoa’ like chocolate. Fashion or chocolate. (Two of my favorite things). As I thought more about my shop I kept thinking how both of those things play a big roll in my creations. I love clothes. I always have. When I was in elementary school I even had a sketchbook where I would design clothes. And chocolate is my happy place. When a knitting pattern isn’t turning out right. When I need to relax. A piece of dark chocolate is my happy place. So rather than picking one spelling I decided I needed both. I am Coco and Cocoa.

6. What do you love about being part of Texas Women Bloggers?
The other bloggers! It’s so wonderful to interact with women who can offer support.

7. Who inspires you to blog?
My kids. Other bloggers. Handmade artists. Many, many different people inspire me to blog.

8. If you had to pick a favorite blog post from this year, what would it be?
I really loved sharing this finger knitting tutorial (here)
