The Music Man at the Artisan Center Theater

It’s pretty cool watching someone accomplish one of their dreams. Those who have been here for awhile have probably heard me talk about my middle sister and her rather incredible singing voice before. This year she made it one of her goals to audition for a musical at a local theater, and she got a part! Last Saturday was her opening night, and my husband and I took all the kids to see her perform in The Music Man.

The Music Man is one of my favorite musicals. I love some of the music in it. The actors who played the leads at the Artisan this weekend were great. And the pick-a-little-ladies were hilarious.

Growing up my Mom took my sisters and I to the theater fairly often. And for a few years we actually volunteered as ushers at one local theater in exchange for tickets to the show.

But this was the first time I have taken my kids to see a live theater performance. Thankfully the Artisan Center Theater is very family friendly, so it was perfect for our first family trip to the theater. Littlest was a little disappointed that his aunt couldn’t wave at him, but he loved clapping for all of the songs. He was also a really big fan that they serve popcorn at the concession stand. The twins had never seen The Music Man before and they enjoyed being able to follow along with their programs.

The theater at the Artisan is fairly small and it’s in the round, which makes the whole thing feel a lot more personal. And after the show the cast lines up outside so you can talk to them. For opening night we made sure to bring my sister a bouquet of flowers. Littlest got excited when I let him be the one to give her the flowers.

Are you a theater goer? A musical fan? What’s your favorite show?
