The best Banana Pudding recipe includes made from scratch pudding, just like my Grandma used to make
Growing up I thought I didn’t like bananas. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I learned to enjoy them. The only way I wanted to eat bananas as a kid was in something, whether that was banana bread or my grandmother’s banana pudding.
When I became an adult I realized the reason that I never liked bananas was because my Mom eats them when they are practically green. If they have even one brown pinpoint on them she doesn’t like them. I, however, won’t eat a banana if there is any green left on it. So now my Mom brings me her bananas when they are too ripe for her and perfect for me.
These ripe bananas are lovely eaten as is, but show off their true potential when made into banana pudding.
This banana pudding is truly from scratch. The extra step of making the pudding from scratch is what puts the taste of this banana pudding head and shoulders above any others.
My youngest sister is the one who copied the recipe from my grandmother by hand when she was in elementary school. That cursive recipe card is still tucked into my recipe book and the one that I follow every time I make banana pudding.
A single batch makes a perfect large mason jar sized serving. Generally enough for a couple of people. Or if I’m eating it, just me. I almost always make a double batch.
