I’ve always loved pizza. But visiting Italy seven years ago really opened up my eyes. We went to Italy to see m brother-in-law who had been living there. But we couldn’t meet him until the day after we arrived. So our first night there we were on our own. We being myself, my husband, his parents, his sister, and her husband. And none of us spoke Italian. In fact we ended up ordering our pizza in German because his Dad speaks German and so did the owner of the pizzeria we stopped at. I ended up eating an anchovy pizza my first night in Sicily. And it was amazing.
Last week I got to visit a brand new pizza restaurant in Southlake called SPIN! with some other fun local bloggers. It was very clear that we (SPIN! and I) were meant to be because their entire restaurant was inspired during a trip to Italy. Pizza soul mates. They opened their first restaurant 10 years ago in Kansas City, Missouri and have now made their way to the Dallas, Texas area.
White Bean Hummus // Roasted Red Pepper, Goat Cheese, & Ricotta // Lemon Ricotta & Olive Oil & Flatbread
Calabrian Shrimp Formaggi // Stuffed Mondo Pork Meatball
Sonoma // Greek // Caesar Salads
SPIN! offers artisan pizza and signature salads made from fresh ingredients. All without the gourmet price. So it is perfect for families, a pizza stop after the game, a girls night out, you name it. I think I could invent reasons to come and eat their pizza.
The restaurant revolves around their stone kitchen. If it gets cooked it happens in that oven. That even includes roasting hundreds of cloves of garlic for the white sauce for their pizza. The kitchen is also open to view from the dining room. You order your food directly from the kitchen. Then take a seat, order some drinks, and wait for your food to arrive.
The Prosciutto & Spinaci & Fig Marmalade was fantastic. As was Olica & Carciofi (Olive & Artichoke), though it is fairly salty (but I liked that).
Oh, and definitely save room for gelato. I have a serious sweet tooth and the Mackinaw Fudge was my favorite. They’ll let you sample a few flavors before you pick one. You really can’t go wrong with any flavor of gelato in my book.
