Relaxing with a movie night? Try this simple recipe for Salted Caramel Popcorn!

The first week, or two, back to school seems to just wipe everyone out. The kids are more than willing to go to bed at night because they are tired. While I used to want to celebrate the weekend after the kids went back to school I’ve learned that what they really want is to relax. One of our favorite ways to relax together is with a movie night.

For our movie nights at home there are two things that are required, a good movie and good snacks. And I could get supplies for everything at Walmart. For our back to school movie night I’m making salted caramel popcorn made from Pop-Secret popcorn and served in mason jars with Lance crackers variety pack. The sweet and salty treats are the perfect combo for movie night. While you’re at Walmart getting your snacks, make sure to pre-order Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie!

The Captain Underpants DVD is will be available in Walmart stores 9/12! Be sure to reserve your copy now by pre-ordering today! While supplies last.

For our family movie night I started by popping two bags of Pop Secret popcorn. The unbeatable taste with better ingredients and inventive flavors is the perfect base for a sweet and salty treat. And it’s a delicious, high-quality snack that I can feel good about sharing with my family

To the popcorn I added my simple caramel sauce made from butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and salt.

The topping and popcorn get tossed together and then spread out on a baking sheet to cool.

While the popcorn was cooling I made some paper cones to hold our salted caramel popcorn treats. Since we were celebrating the end of the first week of school I used manilla paper and notebook paper for our popcorn cones. I cut the largest circle I could out of the notebook paper and used that as a guide for the manilla paper cones as well.

Once the circles are cut simply make a slit in the paper circle and then form into a cone shape. I used a piece of tape to secure my cones. Once the cones were made I could assemble my snack jars. I put Lance crackers with some plain popcorn in the mason jar and then topped the jar with a paper cone and a salted caramel ball.

We always have Lance sandwich crackers on hand in our pantry. At Lance, sandwiches mean more for your family – flavorful, wholesome, filling and portable. They are the perfect pair with popcorn for our movie nights. With real peanut butter or real cheese between crispy baked crackers, up to 5 grams of protein, and no high fructose corn syrup, Lance provides a variety of sandwich crackers that are a tasty and satisfying snack solution for your family’s busiest school days.

With our snack jars assembled it was movie time! Captain Underpants is a film with a lot of heart, which makes it perfect for family movie night. The film explores the great friendship between Harold and George and their connection through a love of writing and creativity. The film includes the incredible voice talents of Kevin Hart (George) and Ed Helms (Underpants and Krupp).

Is it possible to make the sauce for the popcorn in the microwave? Right now I am without a stove

Hi Roxana! You might try buying pre-made caramels and melting them in the microwave in 30 second bursts. Then add a little salt to get the salty caramel taste!
