Ruffled Tie Necklace

March 8, 2012 by Julie 9 Comments

I mentioned yesterday how my sister-in-law is super crafty. (She definitely keeps me on my toes.) Well, recently she saw a tutorial on how to make this cute Ruffled Tie Necklace! So we spent a crafty afternoon taking old ties and making them into necklaces together.

The directions on the tutorial are pretty easy to follow. We pinned out ties (trying them on throughout to make sure we liked how they were laying.)

Then we hand-stitched them folds and added some buttons. She picked one large pretty pearl button for hers (which is the one in the photo above) and I picked three smaller pink buttons for mine.

While I was making mine I had my navy pencil skirt in mind to wear it with. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized how well it matched this pink sweater.

The pencil skirt was my grandmothers. The pink sweater was gifted. The earrings are from Emma Alison Designs on Etsy.

So clever! I used to LOVE wearing ties with t-shirts or as belts as an adolescent. This would be a great way to refashion some of those vintage ties I still have. Pinning! (Found you through 30 Handmade Days.)
