Road Rage

My husband and I are both honkers. He has been for awhile, but I have become one lately. (Basically after moving downtown.) The combination of one way streets, two-way streets that turn into one-way streets, bus lanes, turn only lanes. Plenty of opportunities for honking. Add in some pedestrians that choose to walk across the street at random times and things can get a little crazy. But, in my case, honking does not generally equate to road rage. More often than not it’s just me giving my fellow drivers a little nudge that they might want to pay more attention to driving and less to their phone/radio. Okay, sure there might be some occasional name calling, but since I almost always have kids in the car with me things stay pretty tame.

So the other day my husband and I were out running errands. We were driving home on the highway when a rather large truck was cutting in and out of lanes (no signaling of course) to try to get ahead in the traffic. However, no matter how often they changed lanes, traffic was slow and their lane changing wasn’t doing them any good. Then he changed lanes into us and nearly hit us. Of course, we honked. Clearly, Mr. Truck Driver did not appreciate our little nudge to not hit our car.

Because then I’m fairly certain he tried to challenge us to a fight.

While driving down the highway.

He took his hat off. And then he took his shirt off.

I feel like that needs repeating. He took his shirt off. While driving down the highway.

Then there was some flexing, pointing at himself, and other gesturing.

So impressive (or not).

We ignored him and eventually he moved on.

It hasn’t curbed my honking.

Are you a honker? Are you mortally offended if someone honks at you?

I don’t honk unless I have to. I don’t get super wound up if someone honks at me, cuz I probably needed the nudge.
I’m definitely a yeller. Loud yelling at other people for their stupidity.

Youngest Twin likes to harass me when I start talking to the other cars when I’m driving, pointing out unimportant details like they can’t hear me.
