I grew up watching Nickelodeon. My favorites were Clarissa Explains It All, Hey Dude, and Double Dare. Then when the twins were little their favorite show was Blue’s Clues. And now they love watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. Plus they are finally old enough to have fun together watching the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards coming up on March 28th (8pm EST).
All awards watching needs some special snacks, and we’re going to go with an orange theme! A savory popcorn (cheddar cheese) and a sweet popcorn (orange chocolate).
I started with two big batches of plain popped popcorn. For the cheddar cheese popcorn I drizzled the popcorn with some melted butter and then sprinkled a cheddar cheese packet that I swiped from a box of mac and cheese. (You could also use cheddar cheese powder if your store carries it, mine didn’t.) Then shake in a large paper bag to coat the pieces evenly.
For the dessert popcorn, I melted some orange chocolate melts and then poured them over some plain popcorn in a different paper bag. Again, shake to evenly coat all the pieces of popcorn.
I’m going to serve our popcorn in these green paper sacks. And we can even turn our popcorn eating into a contest. Whichever popcorn has less remaining at the end of the night is our Kids Choice popcorn winner.
For the drinks I picked up some Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters at Walmart. To make a really easy slushy toss a few Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters in the freezer. (And you can look for a special Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters Kids’ Choice Awards display at Walmart!)
Then when they are nearly frozen pull them out, cut the top off, and you can eat them with a spoon! You could also pour them into some fun orange bottles.
While most awards shows have a red carpet, the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards features an orange carpet. So I decided we need our very own orange carpet. I put ours together with felt and some orange tape.
The carpet is ready to lead us all into the living room for our television watching. We even have an orange couch we can sit on to watch the show!
I’ve shared our excitement about Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters and the Kids’ Choice Awards. I’d love to hear about your plans for the perfect watch party! Leave a comment letting me know what you’re looking forward to during this year’s Kids’ Choice Awards.
I won’t be watching it–nut I may very well make some of that orange chocolate popcorn! That would be great to nibble on while working at the computer.
Thanks, Michele! Definitely give the recipe a try! I’ve been nibbling all day π
My family is looking forwards to watching people get slimed! The Kids Choice Awards are always a blast.
It’s such a fun show! I like that we can all watch together, and that the kids get excited about who wins.
I used to love watching the KCA’s! This popcorn is perfect
It’s so fun! And I can’t stop eating the popcorn π
Popcorn is one of our favorite snacks. My kids would live on it if they could.
Ours, too! Especially Littlest. I always keep plenty of it in the house. Thanks, Robin!
That popcorn looks really good. what a fun way to watch the awards show.
I can’t stop eating it! And we can’t wait for awards night π Thanks, Michelle!
We eat copious amounts of popcorn in our house since we have an old-style popcorn popping cart right in our family room. So I’m loving your topping ideas and will definitely give them a try!
Us, too! I make mine with the kernels in the microwave (I did a DIY post about it a little while ago). It was fun to dress it up a little to get ready for awards show night π Thanks, Erica!
Chocolate popcorn?!? Yes!! I have to try that one for my daughter at tomorrow nights family movie night.
Right?! I love sweet/salty together. And it would be perfect for movie night (or anytime). Thanks, Jenn!
Love the Nickelodeon orange! You have to update and tell us which popcorn won!
Thanks, Liz! And I’ll definitely post our popcorn results π
Such a fun orange carpet, lol. I think this is all a fun way to celebrate the awards.
Thanks, Rosey! We’re really looking forward to watching the awards π
That is such a cute idea for the kids to enjoy their popcorn
Thanks, Harriet! I loved putting it in the green bags as well so that everyone can have their own π
How fun! I bet my kids would love to even just have a movie night with fun popcorn and Capri Sun! Spring break is coming up, I’ll have to try this!
These would be really fun for a spring break movie day! Thanks, Heather!
How fun is this?! My daughter would love it!
I bet she would! My boys thought the two flavors were fun to have together.
I love Cheddar Cheese popcorn. All these look so good!
I admit, I did eat the majority of the cheddar cheese π But it was all so good!
How fun!! Your kids are so lucky that they have such a creative mom. Enjoy the show! Stacie xo
Thanks, Stacie! It’s really fun now that the twins know who more of the people are.
I love how you show different options for popcorn! Twice a week, my little family of three, cuddle up to one of my daughter’s favorite night time shows, with a big bowl of popcorn between us. I love making these new family popcorn night traditions =) Thanks so much for sharing your popcorn adventures!
Thanks! We are popcorn crazy so I’m always trying to make it fun for everyone π
Ohhh I’m loving the look of that cheddar cheese popcorn! It looks crazy good.
It was! I ate more than my share of it. Oops… π
Wait. Freezing Roarin’ Waters. Why haven’t I thought of this before?!?! My fiance and I are OBSESSED with them and go through boxes like crazy, and freezing them would make for the most refreshing summertime treat! Most DEFINITELY trying this with our next box.

Right?! It’s so easy to just cut the top off and eat them. Thanks, Erica!
Plain and cheddar cheese are my absolute favorites! Love the little individual bags – kids love when they get their own. π
Thanks! My Littlest can be a popcorn thief, so this keeps everyone happy. And the cheddar cheese was so good (and easier to make than I thought it would be)!
Awww this turned out so cute!! Great idea mama!
Thanks, Jessica!
Pass the Chocolate Popcorn please! I’ll be watching π
Wish you could have been here to share!
My boys are just getting to the age where they would be interested in the Kids’ Choice Awards show. The would love the idea of different flavored popcorn and Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters is already a favorite in our house! Thanks for the idea! #client
