We all want to make the holidays magical. While it might a little early to start holiday decorating, there are things you can do now to help make the holidays less stressful and more joyful. Reduce that sense of overwhelm and get ready to focus on spending more time with loved ones. Get a head start on holiday preparation with these tips and tricks.

5 Holiday Prep Tips

Holiday Prep Tip #1 – Start Decluttering

Clearing the clutter not only helps you reduce stress, but it helps you make room for what matters most. A clutter-free space leads to a greater sense of calm and helps you feel more relaxed. Leading up to the holidays getting rid of some ‘extra’ stuff may even help make room for new items.

Ways to declutter:

  • Go through all the bedrooms and find things to discard or donate.
  • Clean out the coat closet and donate any coats that have been outgrown. As a bonus, you’ll make room to hang guest coats!
  • Clean out closets to make space to stash gifts.
  • Declutter and refresh the bathrooms, particularly bathrooms that may be used by guests during the holidays.
  • Don’t forget the kitchen! Declutter the refrigerator, freezer, and pantry to make room for holiday food.

Tip #2 – Tackle the Deep Cleaning

Don’t wait until the last minute, now is the time to tackle the deep cleaning as part of your holiday prep. Dust the ceiling fans, vacuum under the couches, and clean your carpets. Then when it’s time to entertain guests you’ll just need to do a quick surface cleaning to be ready to entertain.

When it comes to deep cleaning, the Neato D8 features a high-performance filter that traps up to 99% of allergens and fine dust particles. The unique D-shape design combined with LaserSmart technology gives your home a more complete clean and can even navigate and clean in the dark.

Turbo mode on the D8 increases suction and speeds up the Spiral Combo Brush, getting into every last crack and crevice and providing you with a deep, thorough clean. The Neato D8 is effective on any surface, including hardwood, carpet, or tile, plus it features a big brush and dirt bin, allowing it to hold more dirt, dust, and dander. Control the robot through the MyNeato app and clean on-demand or on a schedule with Routines.

Tip #3 – Bake Ahead

Is decorating cookies is a treasured tradition in your house? Both cookies and cookie dough can be frozen to use later, making them perfect for making in advance. Plus it’s easy to bake a fresh batch anytime guests stop by and your house always smells like fresh homemade cookies.

In addition to cookies and baked goods, think about any other holiday treats or meals that could be made ahead and frozen to save time later. Or easy appetizers that you can have in the freezer and pull out to take to a party or serve unexpected guests.

Tip #4 – Plan Your Holiday Decor

Start early by organizing your holiday decor in advance and taking an inventory of your existing holiday decor. Do you need a new holiday wreath or can you reuse the one from last year? Look through your existing decorations and get rid of anything you no longer use or needs to be replaced.

Once you taken your inventory then you know what you’ll need to purchase, like a new tree our outdoor decor. Also make sure you have enough tags, bulbs, twist ties and hangers for outdoor garland and wreaths. Finally, stock up on holiday ribbon, wrapping paper, ornaments, and ornament hangers.

Tip #5 – Wrap a Few ‘Extra’ Gifts

Avoid any potentially awkward unreciprocated gift-giving situations by keeping some general gifts on hand. Use your extra gifts as hostess gifts, as a neighbor gift, or even for unexpected holiday guests. Consider food gifts, like cookie mix in a mason jar, or a handmade gift, like a Christmas ornament. Make custom labels for your gifts to make them extra special.

Bonus Tip #6 – Schedule in Some Fun

Use the time you saved with our holiday prep tips to schedule in some fun. Visit Santa, look at lights, have a gingerbread contest, or go sledding. Set aside time to make memories with loved ones and get the most out of the holiday season.
