Floral DIY Globe – Inspired by Dolittle

April 10, 2020 by Julie Leave a Comment

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #DolittleAtWalmart  http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

One of my favorite things to do is to travel. Whether it’s day trips, road trips, weekend adventures, international flights, or long cruises, I want to be there. And when I can’t travel? Well, then I’ll dream, plan, and watch some movies that take me on different adventures.

The new Dolittle DVD is the perfect family movie to fuel the adventure spirit. Not only do the characters go on a grand adventure, but they also work together to help each other and those in need.

And, even better, it inspired some great conversations about animals. Including picking out some of our favorites and talking about where they would live in the wild, and where we would need to travel to visit them. Which, in turn, inspired the most fun DIY globe project!

DIY Globe

For my Dolittle DVD inspired DIY globe I used:

  • a plastic globe
  • paint pens
  • acrylic paint
  • glue
  • napkins

Plus don’t forget the Dolittle DVD to inspire all the animal adventure fun. Stock up on everything you need for movie, and craft, night at Walmart or Walmart.com. Walmart Pickup Service makes stocking up a cinch!

I started by painting my entire globe with the acrylic paint.

With my globe painted I retraced the continents onto the globe. I decided to make a yellow globe and blue continents, kind of reversing the more traditional colors of a globe. I used a paint pen to do the outline and acrylic paint to fill in the middle.

After the continents were painted I used thinned glue to apply pieces of floral napkin to the globe.

Now my globe needed some animals!

Inspired by our favorite animals from the movie, including the giraffe, parrot, and others, I cut out some vinyl silhouettes of the animals for us to attach to the globe.

To add to the learning we talked some about where the animals might normally be found. For example, our whale and squid are in the ocean. Of course some animals like the mice and dog we could have put anywhere, but we also tried to spread out the animals across the globe as best we could.

Ready for an adventure? Make some snacks and pop in the Dolittle DVD! Hopefully it will inspire your own creative project as well.
