Fall is the coziest time of the year! Turn an old sweater into an Embroidery Hoop Pumpkin
Sweater weather has arrived! I love sweaters. I have several favorites that I wear frequently, and I won’t lie, I get a little sad when they get holes in them or wear out. This green argyle one was a particular favorite. I even mended it a couple times, but finally it was beyond repair and needed to be retired. But I didn’t throw it away, I upcycled it into a cozy fall craft.

How to Make an Embroidery Hoop Pumpkin
The first step is to put your sweater into the embroidery hoop. I originally turned this sweater into a cozy embroidery hoop craft several years ago, and I decided to reuse the same sweater embroidery hoop for this craft. Click here to see how to put your sweater into the embroidery hoop.
With my sweater in the hoop I needed to turn it into a pumpkin. The first step was adding a stem. I found the perfect stick in my backyard, but you could also pick up a stick from the craft store to use if you prefer. I attached the stick to the top with hot glue.
The next step was to attach a leaf to cover where the stick is attached, also using hot glue.
The really creative, and messy, part of the pumpkin embroidery hoop craft is making the vines. I made a couple different vines. The easiest method was using a pipe cleaner and wrapping it around a wooden dowel.
The messier method was soaking some jute string in mod podge and wrapping it around a pencil to make it curly. Just make sure to wrap the pencil with some plastic wrap first so you don’t glue the string to the pencil. You need to be able to remove the jute once it’s mostly dry.
When the jute is almost dry, remove it from the pencil and attach it to your sweater embroidery hoop pumpkin with hot glue.
You won’t be able to just stop with one pumpkin! I taught this class to a group of women where they made such fun embroidery hoop pumpkins.
I love my cozy pumpkin embroidery hoop craft sitting on a shelf with these DIY acorns.
