Sprinkle the Mom to be with love at a Donut themed baby shower! Wow your guests with this DIY Donut Hole Cake
My baby sister is pregnant. Now that she’s having a baby maybe I should call her my youngest sister. My youngest sister Kara, who has done some posts here before, is having a baby. But, while she knows whether this baby is a boy or girl she’s keeping it a surprise from the rest of us until she actually delivers the baby. So when I threw her a baby shower I needed to pick a neutral theme.
The theme I came up with? A donut themed baby shower! Because who doesn’t love donuts?! Our invitations invited guests to come ‘sprinkle’ Kara with love. And mentioned that we ‘donut’ know if it’s a boy or girl. We also told them they ‘donut’ want to miss the fun! We’re really into puns in my family.
The party decor came from Oriental Trading. The centerpieces, bunting, cups, plates, straws, confetti sprinkles, basically all of it other than the actual food and serving dishes.
We served a light brunch and included a bagel bar and fruit bowl, along with our donut hole cake. We did an assortment of bagels: fruity (raisin, blueberry), savory (everything, onion, vegetable), and some plain. We also had a variety of toppings for our bagels, different cream cheese flavors, a hazelnut spread, even some sprinkles.
How fun are these donut suckers that we ordered for part of the display, and something guests could take home.
We had a few toasters so more than one person could toast their bagel at a time. And you can see the Donut Hole Cake standing in its glory.
You really only need 3 things to make your own Donut Hole Cake:
- Donut holes
- A foam cone
- Toothpicks
We used a smallish cone and it used about 5 dozen donut holes. Insert toothpicks all over the foam cone and then slide the donut holes on to the toothpicks. Then guests can slide them off to eat them! Easy and really impressive looking. We also thought it reminded us of how a croquembouche looks.
This donut cake was also a little bit of a throwback to Kara’s bridal shower where I made her a powdered sugar donut cake.
And the donut theme would be great for birthdays and other parties as well. Because, donuts!
