DIY Mini Bud Vases

March 10, 2017 by Julie 64 Comments

Upcycle your empty nail polish bottles in DIY Bud Vases

mini bud vase diy

I feel like I can never have too many vases. Especially bud vases. I don’t know about your kids, but mine have always loved picking flowers. Especially when they are little. Whether at the park or in our backyard. But they are usually small and need small vases. While I had plenty of large vases I never had mini bud vases on hand. Instead of leaving another token from them on the counter to wilt I decided to DIY my own bud vases.

The best part? These upcycled vases are made from empty bottles of nail polish! And they are the perfect size for flowers picked by my kids.

To prep the bottles first I made sure they were completely empty. To do this after they were ’empty’ from painting my nails I let them sit upside down for 24 hours to really make sure they were empty. This also allowed any polish along the inside to harden.

Once they were empty and dried out I started painting them. While you could spray paint your bottles I wanted the kids to be able to help me. So I grabbed a couple bottles of paint that are made for painting on glass. Then we grabbed some foam brushes and got busy!

It took a few coats but I love how they turned out! (I will say that the white really only worked on bottles of light colored nail polish. The gold was great on the bottles with darker colors.) The paint we used included instructions on how to cure it as well.

To finish them off I used some yarn to wrap around the tops of the vases.

And now I have several new vases to store pretty hand picked flowers!
