Looking to create the perfect refreshments for your movie night? Try my Movie Theater Popcorn served in DIY Concession Boxes

Movie Theater Popcorn

Snacks are a major part of the movie watching experience, at least at my house. Popcorn, of course, is the staple and I make sure to serve plenty of it during movie nights. But I’ve also learned a thing or two with having 3 boys, and that is that mine aren’t the best at sharing food. Littlest actually has the hardest time with sharing ‘his’ food. So I came with a solution, DIY concession boxes so everyone gets a spot for their own movie watching snacks.

We are big fans of the Walmart Family Mobile Plus Plan at our house. Walmart Family Mobile Plus Plan = Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data which includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE then 2G plus a free VUDU movie credit every month ($7 value) per line for $49.88. That free VUDU movie credit each month is great for stretching your tax refund. And it’s perfect for family movie nights gathered together on the couch in the living room watching the TV together.

The first step in getting ready for movie night was making our DIY concession boxes. While I was at Walmart picking up the new Samsung Galaxy On5 I also got some boxes. The ones I got were 11 3/4″ x 8″ x 4 3/4″. Each box makes 2 concession boxes, another way to stretch your budget! Using a craft cutting tool I cut each box in half length-wise.

Once the boxes were cut I spray painted them. First the outside while they were still flat. When that was dry I folded the boxes and spray painted the inside.

Once the boxes were completely dry we used red and white tape to decorate our boxes. I went with a classic red and white movie concession theme and picked up a few different sizes of tape at Walmart. Then I let the kids help me decorate the boxes, that way everyone has their own personalized snack box.

With the concession boxes finished I could fill them with our snacks. I got some foam bowls to hold the popcorn and extra small plastic cups to hold a variety of movie candy options. The small cups also help with portion control, plus everyone can see that they are getting a similar amount.

With the serving containers inside the concession box I filled each cup with a different type of candy and then put the popcorn in the foam bowl. I also served mini canned soft drinks with our concessions.

With tax season right around the corner you can maximize your tax refund cash at Walmart where the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan gives you great value for your dollar. Just pick a phone or bring your own, and get your SIM Kit for only $19.88. We just upgraded one of the boys to the Samsung Galaxy On5 (regular price $119.00). With kids in high school I never have to worry about them using too much data, great for budgeting. And I can always reach my kids when I need them and they can always reach me.

With 10GB of 4G LTE data (then 2G) the boys are always entertained no matter how many errands I take them on. And the free VUDU movie credit each month provides family time with minimal effort. As long as I got enough snacks!

Once you’ve filled the bowls with popcorn and candy everyone has the chance to mix and match to create their own perfect movie theater popcorn combination. I got some chocolate candies, sweet candies, and sour candies all mixed in with my popcorn.

What movie would you watch with your free movie with the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan? Let me know, I’m always looking for new suggestions!

That is a great deal! I love the boxes you put together. Our neighborhood does a movie night in the community outside during the summer, these boxes are a must!
