Use your DIY Continuous T-Shirt Yarn to create this Macrame Plant Holder
The kids and I are in love with our DIY cactus plants. So much so that I decided to take it one step further and make the pot a hanging pot. Of course I’m still using my DIY continuous t-shirt yarn. (If you missed that tutorial make sure to watch my YouTube video tutorial.)
Our DIY cactus was already being held in a t-shirt yarn bowl. Which means, if you’re keeping count, that is three t-shirts total being shown in the finished photo. The cream plant holder was one shirt, the navy and white plant holder was another t-shirt, and the red macrame plant hanger was my third t-shirt. It’s just so fun to turn worn out t-shirts into t-shirt yarn!
I made my plant holder from t-shirt yarn that came from one adult sized short sleeved t-shirt.
For the plant holder you will need to cut 8 strips of t-shirt yarn that are each 55 inches long.
Holding all eight pieces of t-shirt yarn together create a knot about 3 inches from the bottom.
Now you will group the 8 strands into 4 groups of 2. Knot each group of 2 strands about 2 inches above the main knot.
Moving up another two inches you’ll create a second set of knots. This time separate each of the 4 sets into new sets of 2 and tie them together.
Repeat for a third time, returning to the original strand pairing. Knot these together 2 inches up from the previous knot.
Stretch the cords over your planter and tighten the knots to adjust. Finally, tie all 8 strands together at the top to finish your macrame plant holder. You can tie the strands to a metal circle and then hang your plant using a screw hook secured into a ceiling beam.
