Keep Calm and Party On

September 29, 2014 by Julie 4 Comments

While we celebrated a week ago, it was this past weekend that the twins actually turned 13. And I am honestly feeling overwhelmed by the outpouring of love that they have felt during their birthday week. We don't do big parties every year. The twins both struggle with some anxiety and holidays/celebrations can sometimes be overwhelming. But we did a party for their birthday this year. And our … [Read more...]

I Dip, You Dip, We Salsa Dip

September 25, 2014 by Julie Leave a Comment

Homeschool lessons don't always go according to plan. I know. You're shocked. I had this great idea for the letter D that I would go to the store and get some dino chicken nuggets that we could dip in some ketchup/mustard/fry sauce. Except the store was out of dino chicken nuggets. (I know!) I even went multiple days and to more than one store. But my plans were foiled. So in the end we skipped … [Read more...]

The Twins are Turning 13 – Minecraft Birthday Cake

September 24, 2014 by Julie 6 Comments

Celebrate a birthday with a Minecraft Birthday Cake! My twins are turning 13 in a matter of days. I can't quite wrap my mind around the idea. This weekend we celebrated. Oldest Twin requested a cake that looks like the cake block from Minecraft. I found a fun camo cake mix that I used for the second cake. I'm a big fan of semi-homemade cakes. A cake mix from a box (usually jazzed up a … [Read more...]

Homemade Biscuits with Chili and Eggs

September 11, 2014 by Julie 6 Comments

I think we all have dishes that we are better at making than others. The ones we bring out for potlucks and parties. Personally, I make pretty amazing homemade buttermilk biscuits. I like to think it's because I'm a Texas girl. My Mom taught me how to make homemade biscuits. Her Mom (my Nana) made homemade biscuits. Her Mom made homemade biscuits. And probably further back than that. They aren't … [Read more...]

How to crush your next birthday party

September 1, 2014 by Julie Leave a Comment

My baby sister is really good at birthdays. Her husband celebrated his birthday over the weekend and she threw a fun swimming party Friday night. Her husband isn't a big fan of 'cake' so she made a layered cookie cake. Between each layer was homemade buttercream frosting. Clearly this cake got devoured. My Dad, ever the jokester, made my brother-in-law his very own Candy Crush game. (He … [Read more...]
