I am constantly impressed by how hard teachers work in their classroom. I’m possibly biased because my Mom is a teacher and one of my sisters is going to start teaching this fall. They put in long hours, take extra training during the summer, and genuinely care about their students. As a parent I want to make sure I’m doing whatever I can to make the classroom learning experience a success as well. Collecting Box Tops is a ridiculously easy way to support my kids schools.
During this past school year Littlest’s elementary school held a year long contest where the classes compete to see who can collect the most box tops. The winning class got to choose between an ice cream party or a pizza party. My sons kindergarten class won and they picked a pizza party! One of the Moms in his class kept us updated on social media and really encouraged the other parents to collect and turn in Box Tops. When your class wins the Box Tops prize in kindergarten it really motivates you to step up your game for the next year. To help everyone in my family remember to collect Box Tops I’m making an upcycled Box Tops holder that hangs on the front of the refrigerator. Then we see it all the time and remember to cut out and collect our Box Tops.
I used an empty prescription pill bottle, a roll of magnet tape (you could also use regular magnets), spray paint, and some hot glue.
The first step was to spray paint the bottle. I did a few coats on the outside of the bottle, I didn’t worry about spray painting the inside. Allow the paint to dry in between coats to make sure it doesn’t run. After the final coat is dry use your hot glue gun to attach a magnet to the bottle.
Once the glue is set you can attach the Box Tops holder to your refrigerator and start collecting your Box Tops. Each Box Top is worth .10 cents for your school. They’re easy to save and when the whole school works together they can make a major impact. If you know me you know I love to spend time in the kitchen.
