Because I Said So

The kids are out of school for the summer and I have a feeling I’m going to start saying this phrase a lot more in the coming weeks.

I love that my boys are all question ask-ers. From the time Littlest gets in the car with me after school to the time we get home he usually hasn’t stopped talking. He tells me stories and he asks a LOT of questions.

While I love that he is curious about the world, I don’t always have all the answers. But when I don’t know something we take the time to look it up together when we get home so he can still get his answer.

But, like most parents know, not every question has an answer. Or has one that I want to explain. Why is it time for bed? The answer is probably something like, it’s late and Mommy needs some me-time. But telling him ‘Because I said so’ is the easy answer.

‘Because I said so’ will join some of the other fun wall art around my house. In the kitchen I have a sign that says ‘I’m sorry for what I said when I was hungry.‘

And in the hall near the kids bedrooms another sign says ‘We can do hard things.’

I really do have a thing for word art and inspirational or funny sayings. I think for the moment my new Because I said so cross stitch hoop is going to hang out near my desk. I told the twins I’m just going to point to it when they ask me questions this summer. Not really, but I probably will to be silly.
