Brown paper packages tied up with string! Make your gift stand out from the crowd with these two DIY idea’s for Wrapping Gifts with Yarn.

Anyone else love The Sound of Music? I admit I get a little annoyed when they play ‘My Favorite Things’ as a Christmas song because, as you know if you’ve watched the movie, it’s really not about Christmas at all. But there is something lovely about brown paper packages tied up with string.

So inspired by the song, here are two ideas for wrapping gifts with yarn!

love2love wrapping perfume

Perfume is one of my favorite items to gift, and Love2Love comes in 5 fragrance options, one for every feeling. This holiday season I’m wrapping up Love2Love fragrances in Fresh Rose + Peach and Jasmine + Sparkling Mimosa. I started by wrapping each perfume box in brown craft paper.

For one of my packages I’m giving it a woven yarn wrapping. I started by wrapping the yarn lengthwise around the box seven times, and securing the end.

Then I wrapped yarn around width wise several times to measure out the length I wanted to use for the weaving.

Using a tapestry needle, I wove the yarn under and over the yarn already attached to the wrapping paper. This is slightly different than traditional weaving because I am wrapping the yarn around the box, instead of alternating the direction of the weaving. Each time around I alternated whether I began by going over or under the yarn.

When I reached the end of my weaving yarn I tied the starting and ending pieces of yarn together to secure them.

Then I decided to add a bow. Here are three different yarn bow options that I created. The bow on the bow was made by finger knitting a single strand of yarn and then tying it into a bow. The bow on the bottom left was also made using finger knitting, but it was created holding two strands of yarn. The bow on the bottom right is several strands of yarn held together and tied into a bow. Attach the bow of your choice and it’s ready to gift.

For my second package I started by painting white polka dots on my wrapping paper. I used white craft paint and the eraser of a pencil to create the polka dots.

Once the paint was dry I wrapped some yarn around the package.

Then I topped by gift with a yarn pom-pom. The pom-pom can be made with a pom-pom maker or by wrapping the yarn around your fingers (which is how I made mine). You will need to use sharp scissors to trim and shape your pom-pom.

And once you open your brown paper package tied up with string, the bottles themselves are beautiful. Complete with a whimsical petal shaped cap.

Five fragrance options for every feeling, What Love2Love fragrance would you gift?
Fresh Rose + Peach = joyful, optimistic, the essence of natural comfort
Jasmine + Sparkling Mimosa = carefree, invigorating and energetic; like the first day of Spring
Bluebell + White Tea = captivating, radiant, delicately feminine; the tranquility and ease of Sunday morning
Freesia + Violet Petals = elegant, alluring, and timeless; like the perfect effortless sun dress

What a clever idea! I wouldn’t want to unwrap it–it’s almost too pretty!! It would be worth it for the great gift inside, though! πŸ˜€ #client

How cute! I have a ton of yarn lying around, and since I don’t actually knit it is just collecting dust. Can’t wait to wrap a present with it.

The woven wrap is really attractive, but I think my favorite is the one with the pompom and the polka dots!

Thanks, Stephanie! I’ve been kind of crazy for weaving lately and I was so happy with how it turned out! Next time I want to try it with two different colors.
