upcycled napkin rings

September 20, 2012 by Julie 2 Comments

This month’s Etsy Fort Worth upcycle this challenge is to create something out of a plastic bottle.

My basic supplies were an 2-liter 7-up bottle, krazy glue, scissors, and scrap yarn.

I used a knife to cut the top and bottom off the 2-liter bottle. Then with just the flat middle part left I used my scissors to cut five long strips, each of them approximately 1″ wide.

I rolled the strips up and glued the end down so they wouldn’t come undone.

I decided to make five rings since there are five of us in my family.

I went through my yarn scrap stash and grabbed the five smallest balls of yarn. Then I started wrapping the yarn around each plastic ring. I went around a couple of times and tucked the tail in when I was finished.

Simple, fun, and they add a punch of color to the table.

And everyone gets to pick their own color!
