Skip Counting by 10’s

April 30, 2015 by Julie Leave a Comment

skip counting by 10s

Littlest loves numbers. Currently his favorite number is 8940. I’m not really sure why, but if he is trying to convey a large number number of something to you, that’s the number that he picks. He loves to count. He got 1-20 down pretty quickly. It was really nice when we first moved in to our building because that’s about how many floors there are. We could practice his numbers every time we got in the elevator.

And he grasped the idea os 20-100 pretty quickly. Realizing that after you got to 9 you started over with a new introductory number. But sometimes he would get confused over what came next. So we made practicing skip counting by tens into a game.

I printed out feet with the numbers 10 to 100 on them, and we talked about how our feet have 10 toes. I laid the papers around on the floor and had him practice walking, running, and hopping between the numbers.

Now in the elevator we try to see how highland fast he can count between the time we get in and get out.

It would also be fun to trace your kids feet on construction paper to make this game. Then you could incorporate talking about colors as well.
