Shabby Chic Valentine’s Day Wreath

January 24, 2013 by Julie 35 Comments

I’m not quite ready to take down my winter wreath. But my Mom mentioned the other day that she would like a Valentine’s Day wreath for her house. After doing some brainstorming I came up with this Shabby Chic Valentine’s Day Wreath!

Shabby Chic Valentine's Day Wreath

A couple years ago I found this vintage sheet at a thrift store and fell in love with the colors and paisley pattern. I bought it, brought it home, (washed it) and proceeded to cut it up and turn it into something I could knit with. I ended up making a very loose knit scarf with it. Thankfully the scarf didn’t use up all of the fabric and I still had some leftover.

For this wreath I grabbed that ball of fabric, my sewing scissors, and I made a very quick frame out of an old wire hanger.

Most of the fabric ball was about an inch wide. As I unwound the ball I cut the fabric into 8-inch lengths. There are about 100 of those 8-inch strips in this picture. I ended up using about 260.

After I cut the fabric strips I tied them to the wire frame. Nothing fancy, just a simple knot.

I did twist the knots, so they weren’t all facing the same direction, and fluffed them as I went.

And then I went and hung it up at my Mom’s house. I hope it’s a nice surprise for her when she comes home!

Thanks, Emily! I thought about adding some cut out or crochet hearts but didn’t have any felt or yarn in the right color on hand. I might still go back and add some.
