Spending Quality Time With My Cat

Want to spend quality time with your cat? One of our favorite activities is reading!

Reading with your cat

We are a family that loves our routines and traditions. While that’s probably pretty normal for people, I love that even our cats are big on routines. I walk up the stairs? Coco, our calico cat, is right at my heels following me to the bathroom where she hopes I’ll turn on the water in the sink so she can play with it.

Cats are actually the only pets my husband and I have ever owned together. We got our first cat just a few months after we got married, an orange tabby cat we named Cosmo. We currently have two cats, Coco and Ranger. They love to sit with us on the couch and sleep at the end of my bed. Ranger in particular is incredibly social and likes to be wherever we are. Coco will surprise you by just suddenly appearing in your lap and pushing her head under your hand so you will start petting her.

Reading with your cat

Coco is a big fan of reading. If I open a book, or start reading on my tablet, she seems to magically appear. Sometimes she is content to hang out by my feet, but she often tries to inch her way into my lap.

I don’t really mind as both of my cats are getting a little older now. Coco is 9 and Ranger, our orange tabby cat, is 7. It’s important that I keep them well fed and healthy. Purina® Pro Plan® PRIME PLUS Chicken & Rice Formula Adult 7+ Dry Cat Food is perfect for my older cats, backed by 85+ years of Purina research.

I picked up the Chicken & Rice Forumal, but altogher Purina® Pro Plan® has 70+ formulas deliver advanced nutrition and outstanding taste. Prime Plus™ is a  proprietary blend proven to improve and extend the life of cats age 7 and older, and backed by a 9-year study.

Reading with your cat

Of course, I can’t visit PetSmart without taking a minute, or five, to wander around the store and see if there is anything else I need for my cats. They’ve got everything I need to take care of my cats.

Reading with your cat

We use the phrase ‘dog-eared’ to refer to book pages that are bent down to mark the page. I’ve joked for awhile that as much as Coco likes to read with me, I think I’ll start referring to it as ‘cat-eared’. Though in actuality I can’t bear to fold down book pages, and will just continue to use some a bookmark (maybe even a cat themed bookmark). I’ve been in a classic literature mood, and reading my first detective novel in awhile. I’ve just started reading And Then There Were None, by Agatha Christie.Next on my list are Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan and Americana by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

One thing I have noticed about my main cat (main because she’s been
with me so long) is that as she gets older she needs special attention. By this I mean she needs to know she’s be noticed. It’s very important to her that we spend at least one period in the day lying beside each other. I stroke her and she meows, chirps and purrs and it seems to enormously beneficial for her and me I think. As your cat gets older the relationship changes and becomes closer. You are more important to her than ever and those still periods when she gets to gaze at through half closed eyes reassure her that she’s still the most important cat in the world.
