Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are iconic. I can still vividly remember singing the peanut butter and jelly song during gym class in elementary school. Imagine my surprise then when I have a house full of boys who aren’t big fans of the peanut butter and jelly. Thankfully not all is lost. Instead they crazy for peanut butter and honey sandwiches. It’s what I packed in their lunch nearly every day all the way through elementary school for the twins. That plus the obligatory eating peanut butter straight out of the jar with a spoon maneuver means we have always gone through a large amount of peanut butter.

As a Mom, when my kids eat a large amount of anything you want to make sure it’s good. Good tasting and good for them. Peter Pan® Simply Ground Peanut Butter is perfectly creamy with a bit of crunch—and no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. And unlike some peanut butters, there’s no need to stir before you enjoy it, which makes it simple enough for them to make their own sandwiches.

And if you happen to also have debates at your house on choosing between creamy or crunchy Simply Ground Peanut Butter can settle the question once and for all. With a texture just like freshly ground peanut butter, Simply Ground Peanut Butter spreads evenly on bread, or a waffle, without tearing it. I grabbed a jar when I was at Walmart running errands. (Make sure to grab the digital coupon before you head to the store and save some money.) I’ve also discovered that the Simply Ground wide-mouth jar makes it perfect for dipping and snacking.

While we love peanut butter and honey sandwiches for lunch, sometimes it’s fun to shake things up a little. Ever tried peanut butter for breakfast? I’m layering a waffle, Peter Pan® Simply Ground Peanut Butter, banana slices, and a drizzle of honey to make a sweet breakfast sandwich. Top it with another waffle (homemade or from the freezer) and then I put on my griddle press to seal it.

I foresee these grilled waffle sandwiches making weekend breakfast and brunch appearances at our house.

A sweet meal needs the perfect presentation. To inaugurate our grilled waffle sandwiches I served them on some easy no-sew felt placemats.

Cut out a stack of equal sized squares. Mine around about 2 inches long on each side. Make notches in your squares as show. I used a pair of scissors for the cuts around the edges and a rotary cutter for the cuts in the middle of the squares. I used approximately 4 sheets of felt from the craft section to make 1 placemat.

Once your squares are cut out you can start linking them together. The center square is rotated 90 degrees from the squares on each end.

Continue linking squares together until your placemat is the size that you want. I used a combination of orange and red felt pieces for my placemats. And, for a bit of visually interest, I curved the corners of the red squares when I cut them out. (You could also do something similar with circles.)

Enjoy your grilled waffle sandwich on your new placemat.
