Ready for summer? It’s easy to decorate with red, white, and blue using bandanas! Get started with these inspiring these Patriotic Summer Bandanna Crafts to get you started
Of all the decor in my house that get changed seasonally, I get most excited about the front door wreath. It’s so easy to swap out and it’s fun to make something new for each season. Plus there is something fresh to great my guests when they come over.
How to Make a Patriotic Bandana Wreath
For the summer I made a patriotic bandanna wreath. Of course I used some red, white, and blue bandannas. I also used:
- Wire wreath frame
- 13 bandannas: 5 red, 4 white, and 3 blue.
- Rotary cutter
- Cutting mat
My wire wreath frame was 4 wires wide. So I wrapped my bandannas in two layers. Cutting 2 inch wide strips, each bandanna made 10 strips. I put half on each layer.
My wire frame was also divided into 4 sections. I made one entire section blue. The other 3 sections I alternated red and white stripes.
I had some metal stars that I spray painted white and attached to the blue section of my wreath. You could also use wooden stars that you paint.
I have a glass storm door on my house and I love that even though this wreath is big it isn’t very thick, so it fits between my storm door and front door.
How to Make a Bandana Apple
Once I finished the wreath I kept thinking about all the other things I could make using bandannas for summer decor. Have you seen those fabric pumpkins people make in the fall? This is a similar idea, but for summer I’m using a red bandana to make a red apple.
I started by gathering a one inch section in the center of the bandanna and tying it off with a rubber band. This makes the bandanna easier to form into the apple shape. The gathered center will be on the bottom inside of the apple. Fill the apple with stuffing and then gather at the top.
Again I used rubber bands to secure the top of the apple. Then I went up about 1 1/2″ and placed another rubber band. This defines the apple stem. Leave one corner of the bandana to become the apple leaf and cover the top of the stem and cut off the rest of the bandana above the second rubber band.
Fold the long corner over the cut stem and place one more rubber band to hold in place.
Wrap twine around the apple stem to finish off your bandana apple. I think these would be great on a table next to some apple pie.
How to Make a Bandana Mason Jar for Serving
To go with your bandana apples on your serving table, this summer serve your dinner guests a bandana mason jar. This mason jar is stuffed with a bandana that doubles as a napkin, and their silverware – you could also include a straw. The mason jar holds all their utensils to start, and then can be used for their glass. Makes serving dinner fun and colorful!
How to Make a Bandana Tablecloth
I’m not a great seamstress. But stitching together square bandanas is a sewing project that is right up my alley. Stitched together bandannas would make a great tablecloth for the summer. And it also makes a really fun backdrop for summer photos!
Littlest had fun posing in front of our bandanna photo backdrop.
Gather up a few bandannas and get crafting! Let me know your favorite way to craft with bandanas in the comments. I have a few more bandanas laying around to create with.
