Paper Heart Owl

January 15, 2015 by Julie 4 Comments

owl heart

This week Littlest and I are focusing on the letter O. If you’ve read the blog for awhile then you are probably familiar with my fondness for owls. It made sense then while we were talking about the letter O, for us to make something owl related.

I was really excited when I came across an idea to make animals out of a common shape. With Valentine’s Day on the horizon I decided to go with hearts and have us make a paper heart owl.

owl heart pieces

The first step is to gather a few different colors of paper. I used paper that I already had on hand, and ended up using 6 different sheets. Then it’s time to start cutting. The hearts are all slightly different sizes. From largest to smallest we cut out:

body

wings (a heart cut in half)

red heart

head

blue heart

ears (a heart cut in half)

feet

beak

brown eyes

The only part of the owl that isn’t a heart are the two white circles for the eyes. And once we had all of our hearts (and circles) cut out we could assemble our owl.

I have to say, he’s pretty cute!

He could even make a cute Valentine with a note attached like ‘You’re a hoot!’, ‘Owl be your valentine’, or ‘Hoo loves you’.
