magic bars

December 27, 2012 by Julie Leave a Comment

We had our usual hollyday pie and this year we also had chocolate pie.

And my Mom surprised me by bringing a pan of her magic bars. I remember making these every year with her and taking them to friends for Christmas. Definitely one of my favorite holiday treats.

Magic Bars recipe (from my Mom)

1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (6 oz) package chocolate chips
1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts (we usually use pecans)

Preheat oven to 350 (325 for glass pans)
In a 13 x 9 baking dish, melt butter in oven. Sprinkle graham cracker crumbs over melted butter; pour sweetened condesnsed milk evenly over crumbs. Top evenly with layers of remaining ingredients. Press down firmly.
Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool. Cut into bars.
Store loosely covered at room temperature.
